I would love to be able to say it was in some heroic attempt to save an elderly person from the notoriously bad drivers in San Marcos, or that I did it while doing some wicked cool trick at the bike track…but no. it was a typical “Cassie” move. Yeah, I did it while walking.
The past week has brought us some much needed rain, and Wednesday afternoon, in between the rain, I decided to walk to Tantra to pay some bills and hopefully get some work done before a much needed date night with my man.
The rain decided to linger and give us another shower during my walk, and all I could think about was getting some hot yerba mate and OJ in my body. I was going through a crosswalk and trying to avoid slipping on any paint (I know how slippery it can be since I’ve fallen on it before) and reached the sidewalk. I stepped up onto the ramp with my right foot, and as soon as I picked up my left foot I felt my right foot slip from under me. Next thing I knew my laptop was in the street, I was on the ground and three cars had stopped to come help me.
I couldn’t get up on my own, and was not sure how bad things were so after being helped up and turning down and offer for a ride home, I decided to call Jon and walk over to Tantra. I could barely hold my things, and was not able to use my left arm whatsoever. Jon thought I was in shock, and that maybe it wasn’t so bad since I was just scratched up and not bruising or swollen. But after the pain lingering and a talk with an RN from the student health center we went to the emergency clinic.
Both of my bones in my forearm are fractured and my radius is compacted. Monday afternoon I am seeing a specialist to see whether or not I will need surgery. I seem to be good at messing myself up quite well whenever I have an injury, so we’re hoping for the best, but also prepared for the worst.
If I do need surgery you will probably be able to find me with a sign on the corner where I fell selling baked goods to raise money for the surgery… so help out! ;)
Thank you to everyone who has given well wishes, help, prayers, offered assistance, given good thoughts, or sent love my way in any way. All these things are greatly appreciated! I hope this clarifies things…and I will give an update tomorrow if I am able. Wish me luck!!!
