When we go to visit the in-loves (my sweet mother in-love refuses to call me her daughter in-law...because she had one of those before that well... let's just say I'm loved, and leave it at that) we pass by this town. Cute, and quaint-someplace I could see us moving to someday-that has this doughnut place with Kolaches. Pretty good ones that we always try and get as we are passing through. The only problem is that we have started making our trips either extremely late into the evening, or extremely early in the morning so our son can sleep on the road. Which poses a problem when it comes to finding our Kolache fix.
The morning before we left for my new Sister in-love's wedding I decided I was going to make homemade kolaches for the road. We were leaving late, so it was going to be hard to find a place for dinner, and what's better than breakfast for dinner, right?
After getting our lil guy to school I started on the process, while trying to pack and clean the house before leaving town! My darling husband thought I was insane...haha. He didn't think I could get it all done before having to leave...Well it was a process, but I did it! And even took a few pictures along the way!
The recipe said this was the most forgiving dough ever. It was right. My first attempt at yeast dough was not so good. Mostly because I burned the rolls in the new oven. These, on the other hand, were incredible!
Let me know if you try them! Send me pictures! And if you don't have a few hours to devote to making them...and you live close enough- let's make a deal! Isn't that dough pretty? I'm going to experiment with a healthier flour...maybe add some flax or something. We'll see!
