I try to make lunch fun, and we always put notes in his lunchbox. Either a letter of encouragement, or just to say we love him. I think they are a necessity in a lunchbox. My Mom always sent notes in our lunches, and I remember how much they meant to me. Even when I was older and would hide it under the wrapper of my bagel sandwich. Yum.
While making Shi's lunch this evening...I had some inspiration. We like to sing this silly pirate song and make up lyrics to it as we go...so his lunch was pirate themed. I got the initial idea from a website that had a Tuna Boat recipe for a party idea.
I carved a Carrot into a cannon, cut olives into cannon balls....and for the finishing touch...cut a piece of string cheese into a giant octopus that was attacking the ship. I love my late night inspirations...His note this time, were a few stanzas of our pirate song, rolled up into a scroll, and had there been room in his lunchbox next to the Pirate Juice, and the Killer Fishies...it would have been put into a bottle.
And silly me only took a picture of the ship....
I do what I do because I know he sees the love in every little thing I do for him. And well, because I love seeing that smile creep up on his face when he opens up to me about his joys and stresses in life. Show a child you care, and they know it...the great thing about showing him love, is it's free. I don't have to make up for not "doing" things with him, or spending time with him by purchasing toys, or making false promises, I just do what comes natural, and reap the rewards of his unconditional love...All it costs me is a few more minutes of sleep, for his joy and happiness. Oh, and I get to have lots of fun doing it while Jon and I laugh about my next new silly idea. :)
Live in the rhythm of love...and share the bliss!
