Not to mention, onions, carrots, artichokes, strawberries, chili peppers, picayunes, garlic and tomatoes! Tee hee!
I've really enjoyed the first phase of gardening. I've started just about everything from seed...except one broccoli, and two strawberries- I was weak and needed some sort of instant gratification as far as seeing green goes.
Other than that small bit of weakness I've been strong and it's been rewarding. Seeing the baby sprouts, and knowing they were there because of me. And they are going to be giving my family nutrition...that is, if I can keep them alive!
With all that said, I have just (with the help of my dear neighbor) transplanted the seeds that were too close and thinned the ones that were too weak for transplanting. And so far, all is well in the garden!
Those poor plant babies have survived my black thumb of death, the neighborhood cats, and their fascination with freshly tilled dirt, as well as surviving the constant barrage of pecans. I didn't realize how many pecans the squirrels were going to leave...the way they were munching the pecans I was sure we would only get a handful this season.
In a few weeks I will be able to harvest the first veggies...tomatoes and turnips will be ready before I know it! Of course, I can't forget the peppers. They will also be turning red faster than I will know what to do with them.
Maybe a fresh salsa or spicy sandwich...we'll see. Anybody have any good turnip recipes? I'm going to have a plethora of turnips all at one time, and so...give me a recipe, and I'll share some turnips! :)
It is really hard to get the whole family in agreement as to what we should be for Halloween. Last year it started as the Zombie family, then we thought it would be funny to go as characters from the Wizard of Oz...and still Zombies. Then, the youngest backed out and decided to go as a Vampire, but we already had our costumes planned out, so there was the imminent split.
This year we made it work. The (not-so) little guy saved up his allowance and bought a stormtrooper outfit, Daddy had a darth vader mask, and I rolled my hair into braided buns...
But it didn't stop there... we had bought costumes to go to another party as Zombie Germans, and thought; "Why not go as German Star Wars characters!?!?"
So he was Deutsch Vader, and I Deutsch Leia... laughter and stares abound all night. Original costumes, and again...we pulled it off. The little man was my bodyguard all night, and of course, Deutsch Vader was chasing Prinzessin Leia all night.
Ideas for next year? Message me...we gotta go big, or stay home. ;)
Just a girl living and commenting on this wonderfully quixotic world we live in! I love creating things. Whether it is in the kitchen, for the home, or for my friends and family...it doesn't matter. Come explore, and if you like what you see let me know!
